This is the Snowdonia area of North Wales Another view over the mountains

Here I am sitting on a wall in Snowdonia National Park.

‘Edward Tomas’; our engine for a trip on the Talyllyn Railway.

They have a ‘Duncan Day’, but I think this is nothing to do with the Light Orange Boy.

This sign has been here for a while and is getting well overgrown by the tree.

We had to stop for water on our trip.

These are some engines on the Snowdon Mountain Railway. I imagine this is what rail yards look like in the olden days.

This is our train, pulled by the engine ‘Wyfdda’.

The engine pushes the train up the hill. Notice the rod at the right side of the funnel. This is used to move a lid over the top of the funnel. Going up the lid was off but going down the lid was on.

This is a view of the track on the way up the mountain

If you don’t want to take the train you can take the hiking track.. There are signs warning that you need to take all the right equipment if you are hiking up the mountain, in particular ‘lashings of ginger beer’.

Or if you do not feel like walking you can always ride up on your bike, like these members of the Kent Cycling Club.

A view of a lake from the top of Mount Snowdon.

A glacial lake, or a ‘cwm’ as it is known in Wales.

This is a model that shows the mechanism that allows the engine to get up the hill, the cogwheel in the middle meshes with a toothed track.
