Back to the Mainland

The Mainland in view

The view from our room in Dingwall.

Food Curios, an interesting place where we had something to eat on our way to see Loch Ness for the first time.

This is Loch Ness, more that 20 miles long and a mile deep.

Here I am on the shore of the loch. The steps are broken, probably caused by the monster climbing up them.

Urquhart Castle on the shore of Loch Ness.

I am standing right at the top of Urquhart Castle

This is the Southern end of Loch Ness.

The Caledonian Canal will take you all the way to the Irish Sea.

Snow on the Mountains, as seen from the car.

This is a sandy beach at the end of Loch Laggan.

We stopped for some tea by this ruined church.

I am looking at the route.

We visited Athol Castle and saw a display of hunting birds. This is an owl.

Here is a Harris hawk and anothe type of owl.

Athol Castle is the home of the only private army in Great Britain - the Athol Highlanders. Usually you have to pay to get into the grounds, but the day we visited was the only day of the year when it is free.

An ancient car at Athol Castle. This is a Jowett Javelin.

A view of the parkland of Athol Castle with some fine trees.
