Lewis Part One

On the ferry to Lewis.

Here we are approaching the coast of Lewis.

The bows open and the ferry unloads.

Me on Lewis in a field full of stones. These stones were supposed to have been thrown there by a giant, but I did not see him.

There are hills on Lewis as well.

Here are the only trees on Lewis. Industrialist James Matheson moved to Lewis and built a castle for himself and planted some trees. He also built a shipyard and improved the roads.

Some of the trees that have been chopped down. Stornoway is a real city, with lots of shops and a Woolworths.

Not only hills, but also and Orange & White man named Penny. He is bright as a new penny.

For the first time on the trip, it was a warm day.

The famous stones of Callanish.

Here is a closer view. Apparently the stones were built around a tomb. The tomb is long gone, a hole is all that is left.

More stones, here right in the middle of the circle.

I am standing by one of the tallest stones near what used to be the tomb.

This sheep is losing its wool!

A sheep with a lamb

A classic sheep enjoying some Lewis grass.

And a classic lamb.

There are lots of lakes, known on Scotland as lochs on Lewis and here is one of many.
